Exploring Barcelona // A Photo Diary

Back in June my mum and I took a three day trip to the beautifully unique city of Barcelona in Spain. We were extremely lucky and had the most gorgeous weather, which was perfect for exploring as much as possible in the day and eating tapas and drinking sangria in the evenings. 

Barcelona is the city of beautiful views and quirky architecture. It is surrounded by the ocean on one side and easily accessible mountains and hills on the other three, therefore offering many spots for an incredible view over the city, harbour and ocean. One of our days in Barcelona was spent mainly on Monjuic, a hill to the southwest of the city centre. Here we explored a number of gorgeous gardens boasting views of the city, checked out the Olympic stadium and lunched and explored at Poble Espanyol - a "Spanish Village" showing off different styles of Spanish architecture. 

We also enjoyed spending our time in Barcelona exploring the older areas of the city including La Rambla, La Boqueria Markets, the Gothic Quarter and the Catedral de Barcelona. 

Finally, we devoted our last day in this gorgeous Spanish city to admiring the work of the architect Gaudi. Barcelona is filled with Gaudi's unique architecture from some beautifully bizarre houses, the gorgeous Parc Güell to his famous and unfinished Sagrada Familia. We spent ages at the latter two as there is just so much to take in. Parc Güell has so many beautiful areas to discover, including gorgeous mosaics, buildings that look like gingerbread houses, tunnels to walk over and under and incredible views of the city. 

And where do I even start with La Sagrada Familia?! It's one of those places you really have to experience for yourself as words can't describe it! This extraordinarily unique building has been under construction since 1882 and it is not expected to be completed until 2026. Inspired by nature and religion, with the outside covered in intricate sculptures and the colourful interior designed to resemble a forest, it truly is a wonder to behold.
